I can't do a pull up...fuck yes I can!

I started out last summer wanting to do a pull up. I have tried them before doing the P90X in my basement at home, failing to do any of the pull-ups and the videos in my dingy basement were short lived.
I visited a small village in northern Quebec last summer for a week to attend my brother-in-law's wedding. I had started to do some aerobic and weight classes at the gym at my new work for a few months (yes this has changed my life - more about that later) and wanted to keep up the momentum while I was on vacation. Before going to Amos, PQ I looked on-line for gyms, classes, bike rentals and I couldn't find anything. I felt frustrated and deflated not to be able to keep up my new routine. When I got to Amos I looked around and found a small gym that had a few stationary bikes and was only open two hours a days in the summer. I decided to run outside instead to at least get some cardio in while I am away. As I was running, I noticed some bad-ass fit guys walking down a street. I stopped and looked around as they must be somewhere working out somewhere but there was only a warehouse on a quiet street. The next day I went back to the street to see if I could find the gym and there was about ten people outside of the warehouse ruining in and out of the building with loud music coming from inside. I popped my head in and saw the most amazing gym inside - this was a cross-fit gym! I ended up doing drop in sessions everyday and joining the cross-fit classes in French, which did have its challenges
This is where the class instructor put me with the strong girls, I packed on the weights and did my first pull-up (fully due to the adrenalyn from the fear of embarassement). It was very motivating and it made me want to be stronger. I had always ran, bike and did classes but never was interested in doing weights or building strength or muscle. Once I got back to my gym in Calgary I was so motivated to do more pull-ups that I started out on the assisted pull-up machine in the back of the gym and did pull-ups everyday. I started out doing one pull-up without assistance and nine assisted (using about 30 lbs). I did this for two months and every week I managed to do one more non-assisted pull-up until now I can do three sets of 10 pull-ups non-assisted and 12 non-assisted chin-ups. Also I moved from the back of the gym to the pull-up bars in the middle of the gym so I can get some lime light for all my hard work. "No one puts Baby in the corner!"
